Last Friday after the kids got home from school my wife, kids, dog and I headed up north for a private get away. I think it was our introverted tendencies reacting to hosting Christmas at our house. We wanted a quiet place, away from all the rig-a-ma-roll of the city.
We arrived late in the evening to a beautiful small cabin. I think this is what heaven looks like. The cabin was tucked away. No overhead airplane noises. No snowmobiles. No cars driving by. No light pollution. Quiet. Beautiful. Cozy. Warm. Just what we needed.
It’s times like this that I think our small family unit thrives. Just us in the woods with books, food, skis, snowshoes, games, movies, and fire. While the outside of the cabin looked like heaven, I think the time we spent together inside, and out in the woods, is what heaven could actually be like. Seriously, it is my happy place.
We skied in absolute paradise. Perfect fluffy falling snow. It was cold but nothing hot chocolate, some food, a fire and a movie downloaded on my ipad couldn’t fix.
While our weekend was short in time, it was big in memories and just what we needed. I, of course, took my camera. I shot everything here with my Fuji X Pro 1 and either the 16, 35 or 90mm lenses.
Hope all of you got out to your happy place too!
